Discover Kajaani by Hire Car
The small town of Kajaani, located on the southeastern shore of Lake Oulu in Finland, got its name from Kajaaninlinna Castle, built in 1604.
This was later destroyed during a war but sights worth seeing from the history of Northern Finland still exist.
Sights in Kajaani
For example, the Kainuu Museum, the old town hall with its clock tower, and the house where Elias Lönnroth lived when he collected material on the Finnish national epic poem, Kalevala.
Discovering the Kajaani hinterland
But now all those who have driven to Kajaani without their own vehicle should seek out a local hire car agency. The excellently developed road network tempts you to make various excursions by hire car. Perhaps heading north to the Katinkulta spa or south to Lisalmi, the world’s smallest restaurant. Seats should be pre-booked, however, as there is only room for two.
East of Kajaani lies the tranquil village of Kuhmo. In addition to unspoiled nature, it is also home to the famous Lentuankoski Rapids and a traditional Kalevala village.
Back in Kajaani, the day can be reviewed in a cosy restaurant, with typical Finnish cuisine, and possibly new plans for the next trip or even Finland holiday can be planned. Maybe next time in summer or winter, maybe again at Ruska time, when autumn, in lavish manner, has spread its colours over the country.
